Wild Rice's Monkey Goes West runs 12 November to 27 December 2026 at Funan. Family musical from $50, age 5+.

Wild Rice brings Monkey Goes West back to The Ngee Ann Kongsi Theatre at Funan from Thursday 12 November to Sunday 27 December 2026. SISTIC and the company both print that closing date. onePA's PAssion listing still stops at 13 December 2026. Trust the longer run. Wild Rice warns you to spend those credits only through SISTIC or sgculturepass.gov.sg, not through a forwarded link.

Alfian Sa'at wrote the book and lyrics. Ivan Heng directs this Funan staging. Elaine Chan wrote the score and music-directs. The show is English, about 2 hours 30 minutes including a 20-minute interval. SISTIC's duration line is 150 minutes with that same 20-minute break. Recommended from age 5. SISTIC will not admit infants or children below 5. Children aged 5 and above need their own ticket.

Ah Tang, Wukong, and a Funan pantomime

Orphan Ah Tang runs away after a fight with his adoptive family and lands in a strange country. He falls in with Wukong the Monkey King, Pigsy the hungry warrior, and Sandy the river ogre. Red Boy, King Bull and Princess Iron Fan stand in the way. The question the company keeps asking is whether Ah Tang ever finds a home. Catchy songs, wushu, gags, a magic fan. The Business Times called the original "a singular triumph" and said it raised the bar for Wild Rice's pantomimes.

The piece premiered at Victoria Theatre in 2014, sold out, and won three Straits Times Life! Theatre Awards: Production of the Year, the readers' Production of the Year, and Best Costume Design. It returned at Drama Centre Theatre in 2016. The Ngee Ann Kongsi is underwriting this Funan revival. Heng restages it on the 358-seat thrust, the only one in Singapore, at 107 North Bridge Road, #04-08.
