Rotiboy at Funan Mall brings the nostalgic charm and irresistible aroma of Malaysia's famous coffee buns to Singapore, continuing the legacy of the beloved bakery chain that first captured hearts in Penang in 1998 before spreading worldwide and making its triumphant return to Singapore after a 15-year absence. The iconic butter-filled coffee buns represent more than pastries—they embody cultural connections and travel memories for countless Singaporeans who fondly remember encountering Rotiboy's distinctive coffee aroma at JB Sentral during cross-border trips. These Mexican-style coffee buns feature fluffy bread dough topped with coffee-infused buttery cookie crust that creates the perfect combination of textures and flavors, served warm to maximize the sensory experience of crispy exterior yielding to moist, butter-filled interior.
The current menu offers four distinctive flavors that cater to diverse taste preferences: the Original Rotiboy ($2.50 each, 5 for $11.50) maintaining the classic butter filling and coffee topping that made the brand famous, Mochaboy ($3 each, 4 for $11) featuring chocolate filling with coffee topping and almond nibs, Cheeseboy ($3 each, 4 for $11) combining cream cheese filling with grated cheddar topping, and Buttermilkboy ($3 each, 4 for $11) offering the richest experience with milky butter filling, vanilla topping, and chocolate chip garnish. Each variety showcases careful attention to flavor balance and texture contrast that elevates simple bread into memorable culinary experiences worth the typically required advance ordering and waiting periods.
The Rotiboy experience emphasizes optimal consumption timing, with buns served warm and recommended for immediate enjoyment to fully appreciate the contrast between crispy coffee-scented exterior and soft, flavorful interior that defines authentic coffee bun quality. The brand's return to Singapore reflects enduring consumer demand for nostalgic food experiences that connect with cultural memories and cross-border culinary traditions that have shaped Southeast Asian food culture. Whether satisfying nostalgic cravings, introducing newcomers to Malaysian bakery traditions, or simply enjoying expertly crafted artisanal buns, Rotiboy Funan provides authentic coffee bun experiences that bridge cultural boundaries while celebrating the simple pleasure of perfectly prepared bread that transforms routine snacking into memorable culinary moments.
Was initially happy to see Rotiboy in Singapore but after taking a bite, it turned to disappointment. It's a far cry from the Rotiboy in Malaysia.
This is despite me eating the Rotiboy immediately after buying and I bought it just after the shop opened so it should be fresh.

The young man behind the counter should NOT be working behind the counter! Such a scowl on his face (before he put on his mask)
I greeted him with a Hi Ya! And he didn't even look my way. I had to wait for him to be in front of the register and even then!!!! He wouldn't make eye contact! Not even a hi, hello, not even a you're welcome when I said thank you!!
Your cash register doesn't show the amount we have to pay and your server can't speak up!!! Had to ask twice how much to pay!
ABSOLUTELY RUDE!!!!!

Tried the coffee bun and the first bite was pretty amazing. It was a nice warm bun with great flavor, but the middle was overwhelmingly buttered up.
It would’ve been better without the butter.

I had a very unpleasant encounter with one of the service staff. I bought 4 Croboy and wanted to buy several flavours of rotiboy. During the ordering and payment, the cashier told me to get the 5 qty for $11.50. When I took the package from the other server who was a small Chinese girl, I just realised that it was all coffee flavour. Seeing that I was surprised, she tried to help me change the orders. I could have a mix flavour, 4 qty for $11. I told her that I would like to change my 5 to 4 and I was ok with not getting my 50cents back. While she tried to change my buns, an older lady came and was unhappy that they were trying to change my order. She was reprimanding the 2 girls openly and she said that whatever was keyed would not tally. Sensing that the 2 girls would be in trouble for helping me, I told them to just give me the 5 coffee buns. The elder lady told me that the system is “difficult” and nothing could be done. I just walked away. Honestly I was mad as hell. Everything could be reversed. All kinds of purchase could be reversed. If only she thought of the customer first. Instead of helping me, she chose to reprimand the 2 girls who were trying to help me. I guess my money might not be much for her….

Highly recommended this bun bakery. This is just a pick up and carry out location. Very good and tasty bun. The butter bun crust is perfectly baked and delicious.
We are happy to get to try it. I think they will get better marketing buzz with better signage and Point of sales materials. Regardless, love this bun. We were regret didn’t know about this restaurant during our Malaysia trip. 😥

Improved a lot and in the last few times that I bought, the buns are nicely baked, with slight cripiness and a right amount of butter. My favorite snack :)
Previous review - Went there just to buy as I saw that the operating hours listed on the website and google is 10pm. However at 8.05pm, the place is being cleaned and no more breads available. The staff mentioned the closing time is 9pm.

Pleasantly to find this when I "exited" d underpass fr City Hall MRT Station n entered into Funan. $2.50 for 1 small coffee bun. Freshly-made so it still tastes as good. Only d price n size have changed. Still bearable to indulge in 1 or 2 pcs once in a while. Do prep exact change to skip d q.

As a fan of coffee buns, I’m thrilled Rotiboy opened so conveniently near City Hall MRT. Glad to have settled on the Cheeseboy for those who may find the Rotiboy a tad too sweet, the
cheese complements the bun perfectly. Yummy filling snacks to bring to office too. No card payment accepted but payment by QR code (PayNow or Grab) besides cash.
