Dapur Penyet at Funan Mall brings authentic Indonesian culinary traditions to Singapore's diverse food scene through their signature Ayam Penyet and comprehensive menu of traditional dishes that showcase the rich, bold flavors of Indonesian cuisine. Since 2005, this halal-certified restaurant has perfected their approach to Indonesian comfort food, specializing in their famous smashed fried chicken (ayam penyet) served with house-made sambal varieties including Balado, Padang Green, Belacan, and Mercon that provide spiciness levels accommodating different heat preferences. Located at #B2-18 in Funan's basement dining area, the restaurant operates daily from 11:00 AM to 9:00 PM with last orders at 8:30 PM, providing convenient access to authentic Indonesian flavors for shoppers, office workers, and food enthusiasts exploring Southeast Asian cuisine.
The menu extends beyond their signature ayam penyet to include sotong bakar (grilled squid), gado gado (traditional Indonesian salad), and various meat options including duck, fish, and beef preparations that demonstrate the breadth and complexity of Indonesian culinary traditions. Each dish emphasizes authentic preparation methods and traditional spice combinations that create the distinctive flavor profiles characteristic of Indonesian cuisine, from aromatic herbs and spices to the complex heat levels that make Indonesian food both challenging and rewarding for adventurous diners. The restaurant's commitment to quality ingredients and traditional recipes ensures each meal delivers genuine Indonesian flavors rather than adapted versions that compromise authenticity for broader appeal.
With five locations across Singapore and a strong 4.9/5 rating based on customer reviews, Dapur Penyet has established itself as a reliable destination for authentic Indonesian cuisine that maintains consistent quality and service standards. The restaurant's halal certification makes it accessible to Singapore's diverse Muslim community while introducing non-Muslim diners to the rich culinary heritage of Indonesia through approachable pricing and welcoming atmosphere. Whether seeking familiar comfort foods from Indonesian heritage or exploring new flavors and spice combinations, Dapur Penyet Funan provides an authentic window into Indonesian food culture that celebrates traditional preparation methods, bold flavors, and the communal dining experiences that define Southeast Asian cuisine throughout Singapore's multicultural dining landscape.
The grilled fish was a fried fish and then they grilled. Seemed not fresh. Same with my friend’s grilled chicken but it was obviously fried first and then grilled. The food was hard and we only managed to eat around 50% of the meat as the rest were so hard due to deep frying. This was our second time (given a second chance) as the first experience wasn’t good as well. This restaurant should serve real grilled food and at least freshly grilled food.

The bakso soup with mee hoon was average taste wise, with generous portion. Soup tasted MSG-laden and there were some tendons in the meatballs. They got stuck in my teeth so that was annoying, so may not be the best option to go for on more important occasions.

Just dont bother ordering their Bawal Penyet, you see the photo youll understand. Gado Gado was good, Ayam Geprek abit sour sour. Overall Meh

Food is on the above average but not great scale. Service and ambience is very good.
Unfortunately the main reason for the low rating is that the portion size is so small for the price you pay . The squid + rice is already $15 and the portion of squid as you can see is so stingy

Quite a third rate experience dining here. The place was just hitting capacity and they seemed unable to cope with the load. Took them a while to have us seated, and a much longer while for the food to come. Made requests to separate the sauce from the food, but that didn't happen. The food quality itself is a solid average, especially when you can get very very good equivalents cheaper elsewhere. Overall, it was decent but on the underwhelming side.

Not very good honestly. Yes the portion size was generous, but sop buntut came in huge-ass bowl full of soup, half a potato, 4 pieces of carrot and 2 pieces of buntut/oxtail. 2 pieces, legit.
The sambal geprek lavked flavor, and wasn’t very spicy, good for those who don’t take spicy i guess? But don’t take spicy also need flavor right? Hahaha
Ikan Pesmol was also disappointing - the gravy was super thick, pasty and had bery strong taste of tumeric and lemongrass - nothing else. Had better Pesmol elsewhere.

The flavors were incredible and the portion sizes were generous. We especially appreciated that the chili sauce wasn’t overwhelmingly spicy which was perfect for our taste. The sambal prawns were a standout fresh, crunchy and packed with flavor. The squid was another highlight perfectly tender and so easy to cut and bite through. The corn fritters made a great side dish, light and crispy, without being too heavily battered. The gado gado vegetables were fresh and paired well with the rich, savory peanut sauce.

Second time visiting this Indonesian restaurant, and it’s just as good as I remembered. The ayam penyet here is genuinely authentic—crispy on the outside, tender on the inside, and packed with flavor. The sambal has just the right amount of heat, giving that perfect kick without being overwhelming. Paired with fragrant rice and fresh sides, it’s a solid meal that keeps me coming back. Definitely a spot worth revisiting.

Food and atmosphere was ok. Price point was fair too for a place in town. Order and pay at counter but food will be served to the table.

The bawal penyet and tunis kacang panjang are done sufficiently well enough to give a nice full-belly feeling.
The ayam bakar padang chicken leg is grilled just nicely such that it's not dry and the meat separates easily from the bones.
While it's not the best Indo food restaurant we have eaten at, it's still a good place to go to after visiting the nearby Peranakan Museum and getting hungry for rendang and spicy food after watching their Peranakan food video :)

The food donhave closer taste to real indo food as most place will sell the same thing. The taste are noce for gado gado, rendang and chicken. The portion is quite generous for the price. Quite a value to eat here. Good place to try

Bought a 1-for-1 Signature Mains Chope voucher for $19.90 which included 1-for-1 drinks as well. Chose the Indomie Goreng w/ Sate Ayam ($10.50) and the Bawal Bakar w/ Rice ($12). The chicken satay came in three skewers of huge grilled chicken chunks - very substantial and delicious by itself and with the peanut sauce. However, while the indomie was perfectly cooked, we thought the sauce it was in was too watery which was slightly off-putting. As for the grilled pomfret, it was really delicious with the sweet-savoury black sauce, with the fresh fish meat coming off the bone easily. Perfect with the white rice. Washed it all down with the lemon tea and lime juice ($3 each). They also provide some corn soup which was surprisingly good too. Overall, food was good and made even better with the Chope deal.

pretty decent Indonesian food with pretty good price in funan! the gado gado is quite enjoyable, especially the peanut sauce which I can still taste the chunks of peanut and not watery. the ayam geprek is ok only taste wise but it's quite crispy. And the belacan chili can be spicier. quite plenty of space available on weekday dinner time and serving was quite fast

first time here, and enjoyed the food alot. definitely exceeded my expectations 😍 the flavour, execution (meat was tender and shreddy, and the squid was perfectly cooked) and the sambal was perfect in complementing the dishes.
also, i love it when restaurants serves ayam penyet kind of dishes with FOC soup and keropok (crackers) by the side. makes the dish complete and feel like the restaurant takes pride in customer’s dining experience. will be dropping by again to try the rest of the menu, which will be tough cause i really loved the Iga Bakar 😍

I recently tried this chain restaurant for the first time. Since it’s newly opened, the scan-to-order system isn’t functioning yet. The food was good, but I wasn’t a fan of the pink drink.
