Urban Farm at Funan Mall represents Singapore's pioneering integration of sustainable agriculture into commercial retail environments, establishing the world's first urban farm seamlessly incorporated into a shopping mall from its initial design phase. Operated by Edible Garden City, a social enterprise dedicated to creating community-centric agriculture and urban food security solutions, this innovative facility on level 4 demonstrates how underutilized urban spaces can be transformed into productive growing environments that contribute to local food supply while providing educational opportunities for sustainable living. The farm successfully cultivates 30 varieties of vegetables, herbs, edible flowers, 2 types of mushrooms, and 1 type of fish, creating a comprehensive micro-ecosystem that showcases the potential for urban agriculture in space-constrained environments like Singapore.
The farm's harvests supply restaurants within Funan Mall and throughout Singapore, including neighboring NOKA Japanese Restaurant that incorporates fresh produce directly into their dishes, demonstrating the practical commercial viability of urban agriculture while reducing food miles and ensuring optimal freshness. This direct farm-to-table approach supports Singapore's national goal of producing 30% of nutritional needs locally by 2030, addressing the critical vulnerability of importing 90% of food supply while providing tangible solutions to land scarcity challenges. The facility serves as a living laboratory where visitors can observe sustainable growing techniques, water conservation methods, and integrated farming systems that maximize productivity in minimal space.
Beyond food production, Urban Farm Funan functions as a community education center offering workshops, volunteer opportunities, and guided tours that teach sustainability principles and urban agriculture techniques to visitors of all ages. The farm's evolution into a community space allows volunteers to participate in farming activities while learning practical skills for home gardening and sustainable living practices. Whether seeking to understand Singapore's food security challenges, learn sustainable agriculture techniques, or simply enjoy a unique green space within an urban shopping environment, Urban Farm Funan provides an accessible introduction to the future of urban food production while demonstrating how innovative thinking can transform traditional retail spaces into multifunctional community resources that address environmental challenges and food security needs.
Located at level 7. I use the staircase which near to a restaurant called Godmama Peranakan (Level 7). I went on weekend afternoon and it was not crowded. Quiet place for resting, but not windy.

Only lift at lobby A goes all the way up to level 7 (Urban farm), 2 flights of stairs will also get you up there from level 4

Access by lobby A instead of other lobbies as that lobby is the only one that brings you up. This is separate from the other higher roof garden which is another lift lobby.

Nice urban farm on the roof of Funan mall. Lots of herbs, some fruits and vegetables, saplings and a vertical farm area, and some aquaponics. There's a number of places to sit and a short walk through the garden--grab a coffee in Funan and drink it outside! Definitely an innovative space to put a farm here. It's small, but well-kept and worth a visit if your already at Funan mall. To get here, take the elevator in lift lobby A to the 7th floor, then walk straight out the glass doors.

Tranquil sanctuary🏝️ to chill after walking through the mall. Just take note there's no shelter so exposed to weather elements. Can learn about the different herbs in its natural state and its uses. …

- Located on the Funan's rooftop.
- A place to enjoy a garden in the midst city bristling with high towers
- There are outdoor benches, swings, plantation houses and surprisingly, a futsal field.

This rooftop farm can be accessed via lift lobby A to level 7. The farm is quite large and consists of a wide variety of herbs and edible flowers. It looks a little neglected though, probably due to the pandemic.

Fruit trees like star fruit, passion fruit, etc. and plants galore. Couldn't believe that they even have lavender plant growing in Singapore. Very educational for both adults and children.

Hidden gem nestled within the concrete jungle of the city 💎 Certainly a great place to seek out solace and serenity here (not unbearable even on a sunny day) + having an educational walk around the farm exploring different species of herbs/fruits/flowers and other miscellaneous plants. …

No other comment. Absolutely the way to go in next few generation. Creating urban farms at all the rooftops of HDB and becoming the eco-friendly state of the art in asia and the world!
That will create garden within each building/HDB/apartment for the netizen to experience and learn to take care of the place where they live in.
With these plants around at rooftop, the air will also become much more fresher every morning! Solar panels to be installed in conjunction to facilitate green energy activities.
Looking forward to a greener Singapore 🙃🙃

A clever touch to retail mall .. a farm on the 7th flr .. it still requires a lot of work .. but a good effort .. whatever little is there, is aldy interesting & worth a visit if in Funan Mall .. hopefully they will make the effort to add in more varieties to turn the 7th flr Urban Farm into an educational centre ..

Came for the movies under the moonlight event. Event staff were polite, and the whole process was decent. As it was raining earlier, plastic sheets were laid out on the grass patch which is a good touch, but otherwise useless because everyone was walking over them anyway.
Extra food and snacks can be purchased but the free popcorn included should've allowed for choice of salted instead of just being sweet.
Will definitely attend if there are more pet friendly events like these again.

Fun, I did not expect to find such a serene corner in the heart of the city itself. Breezy @ 4pm, well.... Kinda unexpected temperature. It's a pity that the coffee corner wasn't opened.
