Edible Garden City at Funan Mall operates Singapore's pioneering urban farm integrated into a shopping mall environment, representing a groundbreaking 18,000 square foot sustainable agriculture project on the seventh floor that demonstrates how urban spaces can be transformed into productive food systems that address food security while providing educational opportunities about sustainable living. This innovative facility grows more than 50 varieties of fruits and vegetables including mushrooms, edible flowers, okra, basil, mint, watermelon, lemongrass, and passionfruit, creating a comprehensive micro-ecosystem that showcases the potential for urban agriculture in space-constrained environments like Singapore. The farm serves as both a functional food production system and an educational platform where visitors learn about sustainable growing techniques, water conservation, and integrated farming systems that maximize productivity while minimizing environmental impact.
The urban farm's practical impact extends beyond demonstration to include supplying fresh produce directly to Noka Japanese restaurant and other dining establishments throughout Singapore, creating a tangible farm-to-table connection that reduces food miles while ensuring optimal freshness and quality. This direct supply relationship demonstrates the commercial viability of urban agriculture while supporting Singapore's ambitious goal of producing 30% of nutritional needs locally by 2030, addressing the critical vulnerability of importing 90% of food supply in an increasingly uncertain global food system. The facility utilizes advanced growing technologies and sustainable practices that serve as a living laboratory for urban agriculture innovation and education.
Since 2012, Edible Garden City has completed over 270 food gardens throughout Singapore in notable locations including Marina Bay Sands, Raffles City Rooftop, and PARKROYAL COLLECTION Marina Bay, establishing themselves as leaders in Singapore's urban farming movement. Their three production farms in Queenstown, Raffles City, and Funan collectively grow up to 50 varieties of vegetables, fruits, and edible flowers while promoting the Grow Your Own Food movement that reconnects urban populations with nature, conserves natural resources, and cultivates community engagement. Whether seeking to understand urban agriculture techniques, learn about sustainable food systems, or simply experience Singapore's innovative approach to food security challenges, Edible Garden City Funan provides comprehensive education and inspiration that demonstrates how cities can become more self-sufficient while creating stronger connections between urban communities and their food sources.

Nice to chill a bit and to discover some new plants

Interesting little green oasis full of edible plants on top of a shopping centre. Nice place for a bit of a chill. I'd love to pick someone's brain about the aquaponic system they use.
